The floats are part of a hide-and-seek style game played on Jekyll Island throughout January and February. Each day, volunteers called Beach Buddies hide floats around the island for lucky guests to find and keep. The Jekyll Island Treasures hunt is free. Ryann Breanne Bradford, born Feb. 5, 2018, joined our Lord and Savior upon her arrival here on earth. Ryann was born at Southeast Georgia Health System at 5:48 pm in St Marys. She weighed 4 pounds, 6 ounces and was 19 inches in length. She was absolutely beautiful, favoring her father in eyes, lips, feet and hands and favoring her mom in personality and the well-known Grimsley nose and ears. Karl F. Braun, Jr., age 72 of Kingsland, Ga passed away Monday night, the 5th of February, 2018 surrounded by his family and friends.  Karl, a devoted husband, father and friend is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joyce Braun; his children, daughters Deborah Stewart (husband, Tom Stewart) and Christine Walling (husband, Shaun Walling), and son, John Choquette; Grandchildren, Ashley (Stewart) Lowdenslager & husband, Chris Lowdenslager, and Taylor & Jacob Stewart , daughter and sons of Deborah & Tom Stewart, and Alexis Guy, daughter of Christine Walling.; Great-grandchild, Aubree Lowdenslager, daughter of Ashley & Chris Lowdenslager. Karl, a US Navy veteran, served proudly for 21 years and retired honorably. She was formerly a resident of Wayne County and had lived in McRae for 41 years prior to moving to St. Marys. She was a member of First Baptist Church of McRae, a longtime owner/operator of Sears Catalog Store in McRae, enjoyed being a part of life wherever she was living and was better known as a gracious lady.She was the widow of Harry Vincent Brown Sr. and predeceased by a daughter, Marilyn Brown Sweat. Survivors are three sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent (Ramona) Brown of Palm Coast, Fla., Pat (Jane) Brown and Robert (Karin) Brown, both of Kingsland; seven grandchildren, David (Jennifer) Brown of Suwanee, Ashley (Amy) Sweat of Cumming, Stephanie (Michael) Shave of Athens, Christopher Sweat of St. Simons Island, Ansley (Kevin) Rick of St. Marys, Rob Brown and Claire Brown, both of Kingsland; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Monday, February 5, 2018 at Kingsland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Devin Schultz and Rev. William Kent Conner, age 66, of Brunswick, Georgia passed away on Tuesday January 23, 2018.
Born January 13, 1952 in Baxley, Georgia to Grace Flanders and Gerald Edward Conner. William had been a resident of Brunswick for many years. He was employed with Securitus Security Agency. William favorite outing was singing and playing the fiddle at the Woodbine Opera on Friday nights.

John R. Culp, Sr., 63, of Kingsland passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Glynn.
Born April 9, 1954 in Elmira, NY. He had been a resident of Camden County since 1992, and was retired from the United States Navy with 20 years of service, and served his country honorably during the Vietnam Era. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Culp of Kingsland; daughter, Jeweleen Mitchell (Jerry) of Islandton, SC; sons, John Culp, Jr. of Nome, Alaska and Jerome Culp (Heather) of North Pole, Alaska; Step-brother, Rex Culp of Seattle, WA; step children, Amber Boris (Travis) of Davenport, NY and Raymond Boris of Kingsland; 7 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters.
A Celebration of John’s Life was held Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the VFW Post 8385 in Kingsland with full military honors.

Verna E Fluck, 75, passed away unexpectedly Sunday January 21st 2018 at the Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus in St. Marys, Ga.
Born January 26, 1943 to Joe and Elizabeth Kevlin in Pitmam, NJ. Verna married the love of her life and constant companion, James (Jim) Fluck on June 26, 1962 in Pitman, NJ. They went everywhere together, doing everything together including opening and owning several electronic entrepreneurship companies.
Survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Jim, her adopted daughter, Dawn McGinley (married to Dennis W McGinley), grandchildren by Dawn and Dennis – DeAwna McGinley, Dennis J McGinley and Jennifer McGinley, 2 great grandchildren – Jose Hernandez III and Lincoln McGinley, her sisters – Alice Sharp and Baronda Thorp, her brother Joe Kevlin, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born February 27, 1945, to the late Delmon Washington and Sarah Campbell-Washington in Brunswick. Janie received her education at Ralph J. Bunche High School and graduated in the class of 1963. In the early 1970s she became a member of Wheeler Street Church of God where she served on the usher board and the mother board. Her employment history includes Kraft Bag Plant in St. Marys, from which she retired after 24 years of service, the Children Development Center in Kings Bay and the local Walmart store.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, George Jenkins Sr. of St. Marys; four daughters, Sara “Deneen” (Michael) McCoy of Lexington Park, Md., Melissa Jenkins of Atlanta, Leslie (David) Bryant of St. Marys and Victoria Dawson of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, George Jenkins Jr. of St. Marys and Dwain Addison of Mississippi; a stepson, Shawn (LaShonda) Marsh of Kingsland; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (Lillian) Washington of St. Marys; eight sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; an aunt, Elvie Washington of St. Marys; a special niece and nephew, Lindsay and Damond Mack, both of Atlanta; a very close friend Delores Attaway of Kingsland; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 5, 2018 at Wheeler Street Church of God in St. Marys.

Jean A. Markes, age 79 of Kingsland, GA, died after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia. He passed away in the early morning hours of January 23rd, 2018 at Addington Place in Brunswick, GA.
Mr. Markes lived in Ojai, CA for 41 years prior to coming to Kingsland GA in 2014. He was born September 29th, 1938 in Malone, NY to the late Madill Markes and Albertine La Haie. He grew up as an only child in a cold water flat in upper state NY. He was a Navy Veteran of 11 years serving in the Seabees as an electrician and teaching nuclear power school. His service included a tour at Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica. He was an employee of Southern California Edison and retired from there with many friends that knew him as “BADGER”. In retirement, he spent his days on walks around his previous home on Burnham Rd in Ojai or at the beach in Ventura.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Darlene Markes, and daughters Laurie Markes and Belinda Markes.
Survivors include his sons John D Markes of Kingsland, GA, Jamie Markes of Red Bluff, CA and daughter Carissa Markes of Weed, CA and 11 grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Addington Place and Heartland Hospice for the excellent level of care they provided. Also, want to thank the kind and caring staff of Magnolia Manor in St. Marys, GA where he lived his first three years after moving from CA.
His inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.

Cynthia Ann Petersen, 63, of St. Marys passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
Cynthia had been a resident of Camden County for the past 14 years. Prior coming to St. Marys, she was a Dental Assistant for 18 years in Hackettstown, NJ. Cynthia loved the beach, traveling, and having dinner with her friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Lori Ann Petersen (Ryan) of Orange, CA, son, Russell Otto Petersen of West Decatur, PA; mother, Loretta M. Rahn of St. Marys; brother, Glen S. Rahn of Douglasville. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry P. Rahn.

Allan Alexander Ryysylainen, 93, of St. Marys, GA, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at Magnolia Manor in St. Marys, GA.
Born August 2, 1924 in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Alex and Hilya Ryysylainen. He had resided in Camden County, GA for the past 12 years, and was a Class of 1950 graduate of Princeton University, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Sande Ryysylainen of St. Marys, GA; daughter, Allison Smith of Savannah, GA; daughter in law, Deborah Ryysylainen of Middletown, NY; three grandchildren, Leslie Grant, Devon Thurmond, and Alex Ryysylainen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Lloyd Alexander Ryysylainen.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, GA, with Pastor Dan Krupp officiating, and Masonic Rites.

Wallace A. Turney, Sr., 80, of St. Marys, GA, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his residence.
Born December 8, 1937 in Tampa, FL, he was the son of the late Joseph and Abbie Inez Turney. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Vivian Turney Levy, Eleanor F. Brown, Gloria E. Pelham, and Phyllis E. Turney.
Mr. Turney had resided in Tampa, FL for 50 years. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving his country honorably during the Korean Conflict. Following the military he worked with Continental Can Co. at the age of 22, retiring with 28 years of service. He then entered the ministry, pastoring and spreading the word of the Lord, to places where he was needed in many communities. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Jean L. Turney of St. Marys, GA; three sons, Wallace A. Turney, Jr. and Carl L. Turney (Teresa) both of St. Marys, GA, and Aaron M. Turney of Kingsland, GA; two step-sons, Freddy H. Schneider, Jr. (Roxanna) of St. Marys, GA, and Robbie M. Schneider (Betsy) of Zephyrhills, FL; two brothers, Joseph M. Turney of Tampa, FL and Alan E. Turney (Faye) of Lakeland, FL; sister, Sylvia C. Pellum (Roy) of Tampa, FL; 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 29, 2018 at Westside Baptist Church in St. Marys, GA with Pastor James Roberson officiating.

Joe Vidrine, age 83, of Waynesville, GA passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at his home.
Born October 21, 1934 in St. Landry, LA the son of the late Henry and Alia Vidrine. In 1958, Joe married Celeste Moore Vidrine and began his career with the Jekyll Island Authority as a carpentry foreman. With his talent of building he was able to leave a vast array of precious items for his family and friends to treasure. If Joe could dream it he could build it. When he was not building he could be found on the water fishing. This was what he loved to do and this was the perfect time to spend with his family.
Survived by his wife of 59 years, Celeste M. Vidrine; his children, Alia M. Murray, Stanley Vidrine, Michael Keith Vidrine (Cricket), and Rena Corwin (Richard); his grandchildren, A J Murray, Mark Murray, Michael (Stephany) Vidrine, Joseph Vidrine, Kyle Corwin (Tayler), and Meghan Corwin; his sisters, Peggy Bellard, Nell Richard, and Betty Rozars; and his great grandchildren, Creighton Murray, Emma Corwin and Zackery Vidrine.
